Hello Yin Yogis!

This is the time of year when I schedule next year, which is a little bit stressful and a little bit exciting all at the same time. So, I’m taking the opportunity to share the details of my final events of 2015 and to give you a preview of some of the highlights of 2016!

Class Schedule Changes:

I have been with Ohana Yoga for over four years and I’ve watched this beautiful yoga community grow and then outgrow its cosy space in Albert Park.  So, Ohana is moving to Bay St in Port Melbourne.  The new studio has two rooms – a Calm Space and an Active Space – so there are more classes to chose from!  The new Ohana also has showers and change rooms, a lounge/reception area for tea and organic juice, and radiant heat!  I will now be offering Yin Yoga on Monday evening at 7:15pm and Friday morning at 9:30am.  And in January 2016 I will be adding a Sunday morning Flow and Yin at 9:15am.  Please check my schedule page for updates and I hope to see you in this beautiful new space!
Yin Yoga Sunset Meditation
Outdoor Meditation at Sunset in Daylesford

Daylesford Retreat, 20-22 November 2015

There are still a few places left for this getaway weekend in Daylesford.  Before the holiday madness is in full swing, treat yourself to a weekend in nature with nourishing food, yoga, and meditation.  This retreat is limited to 10 guests so it is  a relaxed and intimate experience.   Weather permitting we will enjoy yoga and meditation outdoors as well as inside the comfort of Le Yoga’s lovely studio.   Yoga practice will include fluid, circular movements influenced by Taoist martial arts in combination with long-held Yin stretches.  Time is set aside in each practice for guided meditation and some discussion of yogic philosophy that will help you understand the practice at a deeper level.  There is plenty of time for bushwalking, massage, or spa treatments if you so desire!  Click here to reserve your place!

Friday Nov 27, 6:30-8:30pm: Dragons Yin and Yang

If you love an electrifying flow followed by a slow, sweet dissolve into Yin, this workshop is for you! Fly through the powerful Yang Dragon sequence, enhancing mind-body coordination and building strength. Then drop into the deep, meditative stillness of the Yin Dragon to feel the movement of energy through your body.

Saturday Nov 28, 10-12:30pm: Anatomy of Yin

Ever get stuck in a pose and not understand why? In this workshop, we’ll discuss some basic anato- my including the role of fascia in movement and how the shape of your bones can influence the shape of your yoga postures. You’ll better under- stand what can restrict your movement and learn tools and techniques to work around limitations, restore range of motion, and get the most out of your yoga practice.

Saturday Nov 28, 2-4:30pm: Yin and Yang for Athletes

If you want to lift a heavy weight or run up a hill, you need a balance of strength and mobility. You also need some resilience in the face of challenge!  In this workshop you will learn both Yin and Yang techniques to strengthen weaker areas of your body, restore range of motion, and balance your nervous system. If you are a weekend warrior or an experi- enced athlete, learn how yoga can enhance your training and improve your performance.

Sunday Nov 29, 12-2:30pm: Yin Yoga for Meditation

Yoga teachers often talk about the flow of energy in the body but what are they really describing? How does energy travel through the body and can we influence it? In this workshop we’ll discuss the emerging science of meditation and experience how yoga and meditation can influence the flow of energy, supporting greater calm and clarity. You’ll experience yin yoga postures and learn acupressure points and breathing techniques that will support your personal meditation practice.

The Yoga Social Hatha Yoga TT 2015 Graduates

200 Hour Hatha Yoga TT, February – July 2016:

Although it’s certainly nice to escape Melbourne (especially when it’s cold!) we live in a pretty amazing city and it’s a great place to dedicate yourself to the study of yoga.  If you are curious to discover whether yoga teaching is for you or you are looking to deepen your personal practice, then join me and Ambika Chadwick at The Yoga Social for a 200 Hour, Yoga Alliance certified Yoga Teacher Training.  Ambika and I both began our yoga journey in Sivananda ashrams and through the years have studied with many teachers including Noah Maze, Paul Grilley, and Tom Myers.  The course runs part-time, every other weekend, from February through July.  This gives you time to immerse yourself in the experience of yoga and gradually deepen your understanding of the physical, mental, and emotional dimensions of the practice. Over your six month journey, you enjoy the support of the facilitation team and the  community of yogis on this journey with you! This is how one of our 2015 graduates describes the course:

“The course exceeded my expectations. Ambika Chadwick and Jennifer Crescenzo are extremely skilful and engaging presenters and facilitators. Their teaching styles, expertise and interests were complementary to one another, which made for a well rounded, yet in depth course where the students were encouraged to find their own teaching style and personal connections with yoga asana and philosophy. There was a wonderful balance of yoga philosophy lectures, discussion, workshop style asana practice and practical teaching experience. It opened up a world of infinite learning and experience and I am so grateful for this.” – Kaela Snibson.
