What’s in store for 2015?

2015 is already off to a big start! In January, I led a “Yin and the Chakras” retreat in Daylesford which included dynamic movement, deep stillness, chanting, and meditation to enhance understanding of the chakras and coordinate the flow of energy along the spine. On our last day we flew like Dragons over sacred ground… If you missed out, join us for retreats in Winter: Yin and the Taoist Five Elements (Aug 14-16) and Spring: Yin and the Chakras (Nov 20-22) in tranquil Daylesford.  Contact Adrian Thia at Lè Yoga Daylesford for information and bookings. In January I also had the […]

New Class Schedule!

I’ve always valued stability. But sometimes I get stuck. In the stillness of Yin Yoga I feel what moves within me and understand when it’s time to let go. After several years and some wonderful experiences at Grass Roots Yoga, I am heading in a new direction. You can still find me weekly at Power Living Union St and Ohana Yoga in Albert Park. And I’m excited to announce that on Thursday February 26 I join the team at MOVE Yoga in CBD where I will be offering Yin and Flow classes 4 times a week. I am really inspired […]

The Climb

A few weeks ago in Krabi, Thailand we climbed 1,200 steps to a mountaintop Buddhist temple. It’s a strenuous climb in the unrelenting heat and the hand-carved steps are steep and set far apart.  Monkeys swing from the trees, gazing curiously at weary pilgrims. On the way up I passed a group of women making this pilgrimage for the first time.  They were struggling and taking frequent rest breaks. One said anxiously, “I don’t know if I can make it. My heart is strong but my body is weak.” I saw her later at the top of the mountain, beaming […]

CrossFit: The Yang to my Yin

I love yoga so it’s been a constant since I first started practicing in my 20’s.  But, I’m pretty convinced that I’ve remained healthy and strong through my 30’s by varying my training.  That’s not hard for me because I love movement. I have played basketball, soccer, softball, tennis, and touch football. When I need to clear my head, I usually lace up my running shoes.  I trained in a variety of martial arts including Tae Kwan Do, Tai Chi, and Kung Fu.   Once I went to a restaurant and saw a bellydancer and was absolutely mesmerized.  So, I took belly dancing […]

Last Yin Training of 2014

It’s hard to believe how quickly this year has flown by!  These photos are from the last Yin L2 training of 2014 at Grass Roots Yoga.  In the L2 trainings the students spend more time developing their own sequences so they can integrate what they have learned about myofascial meridians and the pathways of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As part of the training, the students break out into small groups and each one gets a chance to lead the group in a short Yin class.  The designated teacher guides her students through a 15 minute Yin practice and at the end she […]

I’m a Modern Yogi!

Modern Yogi is a website and social media portal for dialogue about yoga – why do we do it?  what are we discovering?  who is influencing us?  how are we shaping modern yoga?  What makes Modern Yogi unique is that creator Troy Hasler is based in Melbourne and the site features yogis from the Australian Yoga community.  It turns out that when you give Australian teachers and students a great forum to talk about yoga, they have lots of interesting things to say!  But don’t take my word for it, read for yourself : www.modernyogi.com.au Since you are here on my website (and perhaps interested in learning […]

It’s more fun to cross the finish line with your friends…

Rosemary is a dear friend, yoga client, and the powerhouse founder and creative director of Nevenka who basically make all of my non-yoga clothes.  Rosemary and I were part of Power Living South Melbourne “Team Yin” who ran in the 2014 Melbourne Marathon Festival 10k.  Here in Melbourne, I’m thousands of miles away from my family.  So, there’s no mom to tell me I’m perfect no matter what or little sister to cheer me across the finish line.  My friends and my yoga community are my surrogate family and they do a pretty good job celebrating me, challenging me, and getting […]

Your job should take you to cool places, right?

I’ve always appreciated the opportunity to travel for work so I was thrilled when the team from Beyond Being Yoga in Perth invited me to run a Level One Yin Training at their beautiful Subiaco studio.   Beyond Being has such a great vibe and it’s obvious how much owner Hayley Schmidt and teachers like Rami Ryan invest in creating a welcoming yoga community rather than just a place to throw down a mat and work up a sweat.  Our three days of workshops and trainings always ended with chai and nibbles and great conversation!  I’m excited to return in 2015…

Run and Yin…it’s like Peanut Butter and Chocolate!

I don’t know who first came up with the idea of chocolate and peanut butter together but it was pure genius.  Some combinations just work because they balance each other perfectly.  Peanut Butter is good on its own.  So is chocolate.  But together, they are unbeatable!  Running is dynamic, heating, and exhilarating but too much of a good thing and you overheat and breakdown.  Running balanced with the cooling and calming qualities of a Yin practice builds a stronger body and a clearer mind and gives you the energy to run further and faster.  Like peanut butter and chocolate, running and Yin Yoga are […]

Rise and Shine: Spring Yin Yoga Retreat in Daylesford 21-23 November

Winter is a time to turn inward – gathering energy and insight. But in Spring, we emerge and create anew!  To bring anything meaningful to fruition, we need to channel and direct our energy. Working with the chakra system is a way to source energy from within so that we can move through the world with greater clarity, integrity, and purpose.  That’s why my final Yin Yoga retreat of the year will focus on studying and activating the chakras through yoga, meditation, and time in nature.  Join me at Le Yoga Daylesford 21-23 November. Enjoy Daylesford in the bloom of spring and treat yourself to rejuvenating […]
