    Hi there…
I was hoping to come to the Yin Yoga at Ohana tomorrow…
I just have to deal with the West GAte Bridge…but it should be ok as class is at 10…
Is this a traditional Yin class? or a fusion..
    thank you
    Susanne

      Hi Susanne,
It would be lovely to welcome you to Yin at Ohana tomorrow! In terms of the class content, it is mostly long-held yin postures. However, I often start with some slow, fluid rotational movements for the joints to prepare for the yin postures. And sometimes we also begin or conclude with a brief guided meditation or pranayama – depending on the theme of the class. Come and experience it for yourself!

    Hi Jen
Thinking of doing yin again tomorrow but have been cautioned about not doing too much shoulder/chest work yet (post my surgery). Just checking if the class will be similar to last week, focusing on the hips?
    Regards
    Danielle

      Hi Danielle,
We will be working with the Stomach and Spleen meridians tomorrow which will involve lots of stretching (and a little compressing) of the fronts of the legs and torso. Very little with weight-bearing on the arms. And we can add props for support as needed. So, I’d encourage you to come and do what you can!

    Hi Jennifer,

I would like to try Yin Yoga – possibly even Yin/Yang Yoga (I didn’t know this existed!) – in the new year.
I am based in Fitzroy North – what would be your closest class?

    With Metta,

    Sheri 🙂

      Hi Sheri,
Thank you for visiting the website and enquiring about classes! I have been teaching a Thursday 8pm Yin class at Power Living Fitzroy but, as I live on the south side, I have given that class to another teacher named Hugh Lee. I believe he offers several other yin classes at Power Living Fitzroy so you could visit powerliving.com.au and check out the Fitzroy timetable for his schedule.

My style of Yin Yoga is a bit unique as I have been practicing and teaching Yin Yoga for over 5 years now and continually absorb new information and techniques. My foundations are with Yin Yoga founder Paul Grilley and I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 training with him. And my continuing studies include the pioneering work of Tom Myers and his teaching on fascia and the best techniques for maintaining “fascial fitness”. In working with my own body and many student bodies, I found that Yin stretches were often better absorbed when combined with fluid, circular movements that lubricate the joints and hydrate the fascia. So, I weave together fluid sequences that draw from taoist internal martial arts and long deep yin stretches to slowly release patterns of tension in the connective tissue. I find the combination of working with gentle fluid movement, breath, and yin stretches (or Yin/Yang) is really potent!

If you’d like to check out a class of mine and cannot come south side, here are a few options:

I teach Yin Tuesdays at 5:30pm and Fridays at 10am at Yoga Flame in Moonee Ponds – these are ongoing classes and you can drop in whenever you like

From February 7 – March 31, I am running a 6-week Yin Yang Yoga course Fridays 7:30-8:30am at Studio Cirq (just near Parliament). This course requires pre-booking and the cost is $135.

And should you want to venture south side for a weekend, I am running Level One Yin Yoga teacher training at Grass Roots Yoga in St Kilda the weekend of Feb 22-23. This training is open to teachers and students with Yin experience and enrolment is available under ‘workshops’ at grassrootsyoga.com

Thanks for reaching out and I hope to meet you at a Yin class some time!

      Warmly,
      Jennifer

    Hi Jen,
I’m so missing my ying yang yoga!!
I was hoping to head over next weekend but notice the teacher training workshop is full – I can’t believe I’ve missed out.
Do you have a program for next year at all for the L1 and L2? I’d be happy to pay a deposit to lock both in, as very keen.
    Cheers,
    Jacinta
