FAQs about Yin Teacher Trainings

I get a lot of questions about the structure of my Yin Teacher Trainings.  So, I thought I’d take the time to answer some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS) here in one place.  When a studio decides to host a Yin training, we work together to offer discounts for studio members or for yogis purchasing more than one Yin module at the studio.  So, once you’ve decided when and where you’d like to do your training, you can visit the studio website for those details. But, this is all the other good stuff you need to know to train with me and work […]

Book Now for My First Scheduled Melbourne Yin Trainings of 2017!

Overview Yin Yoga is more than resting on a prop (although you will certainly learn how to use props more creatively!) Yin is not an endurance test to see how long you can squeeze your eyeballs, clench your jaw, and hold a pose. It’s not the aggressive pursuit of flexibility (and you don’t even have to be able to touch your toes to get started!) It is not the yoga for when you are injured or sick and cannot do an athletic flow (although Yin can help you heal). Yin is not about drifting off but learning to pay attention […]

Yin Yoga Summer Newsletter

Hello Yin Yogis! This is the time of year when I schedule next year, which is a little bit stressful and a little bit exciting all at the same time. So, I’m taking the opportunity to share the details of my final events of 2015 and to give you a preview of some of the highlights of 2016!   Class Schedule Changes: I have been with Ohana Yoga for over four years and I’ve watched this beautiful yoga community grow and then outgrow its cosy space in Albert Park.  So, Ohana is moving to Bay St in Port Melbourne.  The […]

Want more Yin workshops or training? Here’s what’s on for Spring!

As the brilliant dancer and choreographer Martha Graham said, “Movement never lies.  It is a barometer telling the state of the soul’s weather to all who can read it.” In Melbourne spring, the weather can be all over the place and I feel my own internal barometric pressure rising and falling like crazy!  One minute I’m wildly enthusiastic.  The next I’m flat.  One day I move fluidly and joyfully through my yoga practice, and the next everything feels like effort and struggle.  If the way we move does reflect our inner state, then maybe the way we move can also […]

Melbourne’s First 50 Hr Yin TT Immersion

Over the Easter Holiday in April, I partnered with Le Yoga Daylesford to host Melbourne’s first 50-hour Yin TT Immersion.  We spent five glorious autumn days in Daylesford practicing Yin Yoga and studying the principles behind the practice.  Each morning began with Yin Yoga and meditation, followed by a Q&A about the morning practice.  The rest of the day was divided between lecture on the anatomy and philosophy of Yin and learning practical tools for teaching Yin. In lectures we discussed how Yin Yoga influences fascia, mobilises the spine, enhances proprioception, activates the parasympathetic nervous system, and balances Qi flow in the major meridians. […]

What’s in store for 2015?

2015 is already off to a big start! In January, I led a “Yin and the Chakras” retreat in Daylesford which included dynamic movement, deep stillness, chanting, and meditation to enhance understanding of the chakras and coordinate the flow of energy along the spine. On our last day we flew like Dragons over sacred ground… If you missed out, join us for retreats in Winter: Yin and the Taoist Five Elements (Aug 14-16) and Spring: Yin and the Chakras (Nov 20-22) in tranquil Daylesford.  Contact Adrian Thia at Lè Yoga Daylesford for information and bookings. In January I also had the […]

Yoga from the Yinside Out

What I love about Yin Yoga is that it allows us to consider teaching yoga from the inside (yinside) out. Through postures, we investigate our most deeply held beliefs, shedding what holds us back and making space for new perspectives. Thank you to Kula Yoga for hosting the August Level One Yin training in Melbourne and to all those who attended and contributed. If you missed out on this training (and that makes you sad) book for my upcoming Level One in October at Grass Roots Yoga in St Kilda.  Or, if you’re in Western Australia, join me October 3-5 for my first […]

A beautiful weekend of Yin Training at Kula Yoga

Kula Yoga in Melbourne’s Hawthorne East is a gorgeous yoga studio and the host of my latest Yin Level One training.  I shared an inspiring weekend with 28 movement instructors including yoga teachers, CrossFit coaches, and Physios.  My growing collection of fascia images was on display  as well as some new props – the Tensegrity model, mandarin oranges, and neon green “bouncing putty” and new favourite words “hydrophilic” and “hydrophobic”.  Discussion was lively  as we considered target areas, playing edges, yang dimensions of yin poses, hyper-mobility, and being symmetrical.   Often these conversations really revolve around the deeper question, “What are the values and beliefs that shape […]
