One of the best parts about Yin Yoga is the bolsters, firm pillows that cushion and support you so that you can relax into the postures and target the deeper connective tissues. Until recently I had a very boring, standard navy blue bolster. It did the job but it didn’t do much to brighten the room! One day after a Yin class, I was discussing the lack of inspiring bolsters with my friend Aimie Whiting. Aimie is just one of those awesome, creative, get shit done kind of people. She’s both my yin yoga student and, more recently, my CrossFit training partner. Aimie is a CrossFit coach and trains for competitions so when we work out together, I’m always kind of wondering if I can really finish (or even start?) whatever devilish workout she has dreamed up But because she has been my yoga student for a long time, she knows my strengths and weaknesses and how far to push me. She gives me some coaching but also lets me try to work things out on my own. And she inspires me with her relentless commitment to learning new things and to conquering the movements and skills that challenge her the most. But, I had no idea that this Warrior Woman was also a Domestic Goddess until we started discussing bolsters and she announced that she didn’t want something boring and standard and she was going to make her own bolster. I was like, “What!! You can also sew?” Two weeks later she had designed and produced eight show-stopping bolsters. So, I am even more in awe of Aimie and the proud owner of one of her unique creations.
