I don’t know who first came up with the idea of chocolate and peanut butter together but it was pure genius. Some combinations just work because they balance each other perfectly. Peanut Butter is good on its own. So is chocolate. But together, they are unbeatable! Running is dynamic, heating, and exhilarating but too much of a good thing and you overheat and breakdown. Running balanced with the cooling and calming qualities of a Yin practice builds a stronger body and a clearer mind and gives you the energy to run further and faster. Like peanut butter and chocolate, running and Yin Yoga are simply better together!
This year the crew at Power Living Melbourne hosted a 5-week Run and Yin group and formed a team to race in the Melbourne Marathon Festival 10k Run, raising funds for research to end cystic fibrosis . Both the Fitzroy and South Melbourne studios participated, designating a time to train together as a team and providing a complementary weekly Yin class to support the runners in training. At Power Living Union St we met every Wednesday, trained with run coach Ashley Lofton, and then joined in the 7:45pm Yin class at Power Living Union St. The only down side is that I teach the Yin class so I didn’t get to soak up the post-run Yin 🙁
Since I mostly run solo, it was really nice to train with a group. I loved showing up and seeing everyone gathered and ready to run, no matter what the weather. Transitioning from running sprints to teaching Yin had it’s challenges but I’d do it all again in a heartbeat!
